Lake George Winery is an award winning boutique winery located at “Westering” on the Federal Highway, Lake George (near Collector) about 30 minutes north of Canberra. The 150 hectare property overlooks the spectacular Lake George and is surrounded by the magnificent, rolling hills of the Cullerin Escarpment.

The winery is renowned for premium cool climate wines such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Tempranillo, Shiraz and Pinot Noir.

Lake George Winery is situated 700m above sea level with a north – easterly aspect, and is located in the basin of Lake George. This affords the winery many viticultural advantages. Budburst occurs in mid to late September and picking starts around March until mid April. This allows long subtle flavours to develop. Long, slow ferments and a judicious use of both new and old style winemaking techniques allow the fruit to show through to the best possible advantage.

The vineyard over the last year has seen a change due to the demand of more Riesling Shiraz and Pinot Noir. These varieties and better clones have been grafted to the current rootstock.

Another variety that has been grafted is Tempranillo and Viognier which has been missing from our portfolio of wines, and we look forward to making some smart wines from these varieties.

Lake George Winery’s shale based soils consist of alluvial outwash from the nearby Cullarin Range, and loose gravel embankments created over millennia by the wave action of Lake George. Established in 1972, the vineyard has an optimal easterly aspect, and late afternoon sea breezes moderate heat during the growing season. Lake George Winery wines are made with minimal interference, allowing full expression of the character of the vineyard.

Pinot Noir 2017

Rating 95

Fresh, bright red. Fragrant, twiggy and whole bunchy. Redcurrants and baking spices. Forest floor and alpine berries. All with a clear, high contrast brightness. The palate reflects this too. Bright, fresh, chalky tannins, twiggy, and red-fruited flavours. So much to like.
